Along Bible Paths: Summer Devotions grew out of the daily devotional e-mail list that Jody Neufeld began in 1999 to encourage others to begin their day with the Lord. This book is a collection organized for the summer.

Angels, Mysteries, and Miracles
There is a tendency among modern Christians to avoid comment on the idea of miracles or mysterious events that might indicate the direct intervention of God. There is an even more pronounced belief that modern liberal or progressive Christians will avoid these ideas. A God who is distant, the source of everything, is acceptable, but the idea of supernatural activity is embarrassing at best. There is virtually no room for theological discussions of angels, demons, and paranormal experiences.
Bruce Epperly is a process theologian and a leading thinker in progressive Christian theology, and he believes we need to take another look at God and God’s involvement in the universe in which we live. Rather than finding ways to defend the intrusive interventions of a distant, supernatural God in the traditional sense of the word “miracle,” Bruce sees God as closer; so close, in fact, that God is part of all events. God providentially acts in all things, not in terms of outside intervention, but through ongoing natural interactions that change our lives and the world.
Join Dr. Bruce Epperly as he explores a world of wonders in which is God uncomfortably and comfortingly, subtly and actively present.

Beginning and Ending a Pastorate
Changing pastors is a critical time in the life of a church, with opportunities for misunderstanding between the congregation and the incoming and outgoing pastors.
In this short volume, Dr. Tuck draws on his experience in all phases of this transition to help pastors and congregations understand the process and learn to work together to make such change successful. He addresses the role of the interim pastor, of the church leaders, and the departing and incoming pastors.
While this time of change can be a challenge, and in some churches has had negative results, this book provides a guide to the attitudes and actions that will make this an opportunity for growth, new ministry, and continuing spiritual transformation. As a volume in the Conversations in Ministry Series, edited by a committee from the Academy of Parish Clergy, it is selected by parish pastors for parish pastors, and designed for your busy schedule.
If you are a pastor and are facing a change of this nature or are a leader in a congregation that is experiencing or about to experience such a transition, Beginning and Ending a Pastorate will provide you with clear, practical, scripturally based, and theologically sound advice for every step of the way. It is, as one reviewer noted, a worthy guide.

Christian Faith for Adolescents
How can your church respond to the questions young people have about Christianity? Do you have effective curriculum material?
Pastor and author Bob LaRochelle believes that young people are much like adults in that we battle constantly with many questions. Some of these questions go well beyond “what” to ask some ultimate “why” questions. Whether we aim to or not, at some point we will encounter these questions.
This book, suitable for youth classes at any time, approaches learning about the faith as an exploration of the questions. It is not an attempt to provide all the answers, but rather to explore and even suggest new questions for future exploration.
If you have a youth group that is ready for and adventure exploring what’s at and beyond the edges of our understanding, while at the same time learning the basics of the Christian faith, this may be the book for you.
(If you are a pastor, youth leader, or Sunday School teacher, consider requesting a free evaluation copy to see if this is the book for your group.)

Christianity
In Christianity: The Basics, Elgin Hushbeck presents the basic doctrines that have defined orthodox Christianity down through the ages, giving a basic defense for this core of the Christian Faith. He also addresses questions such as can we really know and understand what the Bible teaches; isn’t it all just a matter of interpretation; and what do we mean when we say someone is, or is not, a Christian? This is a serious study, but is written in language that anyone can understand. It is suitable for use in classes in basic Christianity as well as for those who want to refresh their memory about the basics and prepare to share their faith intelligently and with grace.

Clergy Table Talk
hat goes on in the back of clergy folks’ heads that we wish we could talk about? And what do we talk about with no holds barred? In each chapter of this book, Groff offers a spiritual spin on an issue in ministry normally viewed as a distraction. He shows real life ways that a barrier can become a bridge to deepening spiritual life and vocation. A paragraph ends with a question, inviting the reader to pause . . . and ponder. Each chapter ends with a spiritual practice and questions for reflection. Here is ideal grist for intergenerational study groups for ministers, members, and seekers.

Colossians & Philemon
Christology and ethics. Is it possible for letters written in the first century to still impact people living in the 21st century?
Dr. Allan Bevere, pastor and professor, husband and grandfather, believes Paul’s words are not only relevant to our century but timely to the world we are currently struggling to live and influence while still being known as aliens.
“The Christians in Colossae are encouraged to look heavenward, not to escape this world, but rather to put this world in heavenly context, to seek the things above is not an escape from earthly realities, but rather the things above puts earthly things in their divine context.” – Dr. Allan Bevere

Conversations with my Grandchildren About God, Religion, and Life
Passing our faith from generation to generation is difficult. It has been this way from the time that Cain killed his brother, through Israel’s call for a king because Samuel’s sons were not like him, up to the present day when children reject their parents’ faith.
Prolific author (37 books and counting!) William Powell Tuck wants to “tell to the next generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, his might, and the wonderful things he has done” (Psalm 78:4).
In this book, he does so by answering serious questions from his grandchildren, many of whom are college age. He’s not afraid to address the controversial questions with them, including current issues of politics, climate change, and human sexuality. But all of these
questions are addressed from a foundation of informed Christian faith, honed through years of preaching, teaching and writing. At the same time, he addresses questions from the younger grandchildren in simpler terms. With an accessible, question and answer layout, the reader can find direction in addressing these topics during their own family discussions, or in teaching them in small groups, Sunday School, or even from the pulpit.
Every generation can benefit from this book, but those who teach will find it especially helpful. Shouldn’t that be every Christian?
